Get familiar with Oakville rapper QUAMi
While many Canadian rappers claim Toronto as their throne, QUAMi is the newest rapper to break out the suburbs of Oakville, Ontario. The 21 year old first appeared on the scene through his single Saliva, which featured dark overtone production along with intricate wordplay. The track had some real Earl Sweatshirt vibes with a hazy, drugged out sound that would turn on any true hip-hop head.
With production from San Fran-based producer DECAP, QUAMi switches up the pace for some feel-good party music on this newest single “Knock” featuring fellow Oakville artist oz. The blaring horns and sweet drum kicks makes for pure ear candy while the two rappers exchange verses – stating they would rather crack a six-pack than write a diss track. QUAMi effortlessly bounces on the beat with his signature nasal-low pitched voice and clever lyrics. The combination of the scenic backyard house party and flashy animations in the video sets the perfect mood for the track. The video version also switches to a dope unreleased track from QUAMi – where he resorts back to a conscious frame of mind calling out the shackles of materialism and his view of reality.
Although QUAMi is yet to release a project, he’s already shown the ability to pull listeners in with his charisma and thoughtful lyricism. The key lies in QUAMi’s ability to find balance between being the conscious artist with a deeper message while also being the light-hearted rapper who’s here for a good time. Hopefully 2017 calls for new music so be sure to keep it locked.
